Same Day Printing, a fast-turnaround print service provider, needed to reduce reliance on outsourcing while expanding its rigid printing capabilities. The challenge: Maintaining control while scaling demand

For Same Day Printing, speed and quality are core to its value proposition. As customer demand for rigid media and flatbed applications increased, more work was being outsourced—impacting turnaround times and reducing control over production.

Tom Dickson, Same Day Printing Solutions Provider and Director, explains:

As customer demand for rigid media and flatbed applications continued to grow, it became increasingly clear to us that there was a steady shift in this balance and the amount of work we were needing to outsource was growing at a pace that was starting to erode our control. Every investment choice is critical for an operation of our size, so we looked at a variety of options, but the all-in-one HP Latex R530 jumped out at us as ideal for our needs: a system that would immediately enable us to increase our turnaround times and facilitate greater flexibility over the work we deliver inhouse and therefore more control over the outcomes.

The solution: Bringing rigid printing in-house with HP Latex R530

Before adopting the HP Latex R530, rigid jobs often required print-and-mount workflows or outsourcing—adding time and operational complexity.

Dickson adds:

Before this investment, the rigid media jobs we were taking on would typically require a traditional print-and-mount workflow or drive a decision to outsource the job: either option adding valuable time to our turnaround promise.

With the HP Latex R530, Same Day Printing can now produce a wider range of applications in-house, enabling more flexibility in workflow decisions and improving overall production control.

But with the HP Latex R530, we can accommodate a much wider range of jobs inhouse and make informed choices on production workflows, depending on the client’s requirements. Added to this, because of our increased capacity internally, we’re also securing greater volumes of work overall, so we still have plenty of work to help us maintain and even strengthen our relationships with our trade printing partners.

The shift to in-house rigid production has delivered measurable operational improvements:

• More than 750 square metres of rigid output per month produced in-house

• Peak production reaching 1100 square metres in a single month

• Greater control over scheduling and delivery timelines

This uplift has translated into stronger operational efficiency, improved profitability, and a more scalable production model.

Expanding applications and unlocking new growth

Beyond efficiency gains, Same Day Printing is using the HP Latex R530 to expand its application offering and enter new segments.

The business is now producing a broader mix of work, including rigid displays on FSC-certified Re-board, Coreflute custom mailer boxes, short-run retail packaging, corrugated POS displays, plastic-free posters, and promotional items such as drink coasters.
