German printing and reprographics business ReproMedia GmbH has said its investment in a new HP Latex R530 printer has strengthened its in-house production capabilities, allowing it to significantly expand its overall service offering.
Based in Dresden, ReproMedia has served the German market since 1990, evolving into a provider of digital and large-format print and visual communication solutions. The company works with clients across retail, architecture, marketing, and the public sector on a wide range of applications.
A core element of ReproMedia’s strategy is to produce all work in-house, from typesetting and layout to prepress and the final output. This approach drove the decision to invest in new technology to enhance in-house capabilities and broaden its offering.
After reviewing several options, the company selected the HP Latex R530, purchasing the device from approved HP distributor OVOL ComPlott GmbH. Currently the only compact all-in-one rigid and flexible printer in the HP Latex range, it delivers speeds of up to 24 sq m/hr in indoor mode and supports boards up to 1.6m wide and 5cm thick. Running 3L ink cartridges and supporting colour and white ink, the printer is suited to applications including signage, window graphics, décor, banners, and POS.
“We chose the R530 because we were looking for a compact, versatile solution that supports direct printing onto rigid materials, without sacrificing roll-to-roll flexibility,” said ReproMedia Managing Director, Thomas Giebe. “Previously, we completed many jobs using a print-and-mount process: printing on film, cutting it, and mounting it onto a substrate. With the HP Latex R530, we can print directly onto the final material, saving time, materials, and cost.
“Its space-saving design was another important factor. It requires significantly less floor space than comparable flatbed systems and can run on standard single-phase power without complex installation.”
Higher Quality, Broader Colour Capabilities
Installed in October 2025 at the company’s production facility in Dresden, the printer has already had a significant impact on production.
“The quality of HP Latex inks , especially the wide colour gamut enabled by HP Pixel Control and the option of white ink, allows us to achieve results that we were previously unable to produce in-house,” said Thomas Giebe.
“The R530 has expanded what we can produce internally. Jobs that once required UV printing or multi-step processes can now be completed more efficiently on a single system. This has allowed us to replace our previous UV printer with a more versatile technology that delivers improved quality, greater flexibility, and lower operating costs.”
Unlocking Growth in Rigid Media Applications
Looking ahead, Giebe expects direct-to-rigid printing to create new opportunities in high-quality advertising and presentation applications, particularly for agencies, exhibition builders, architects, and marketing teams.
“Jobs that we previously produced using UV technology can be completed faster, more precisely, and more sustainably,” he said, highlighting the environmental benefits of water-based HP Latex inks, which have lower VOC content than UV, solvent, and eco-solvent alternatives.
On top of this, Thomas referenced the benefit of full-bleed direct printing, saying this will also help the company access new work and reduce time-consuming finishing steps. He added that the print speed will allow the company to meet tight deadlines, while he also highlighted the print quality in terms of vivid colours, smooth gradients, and consistently high quality on both rigid and flexible materials.
“The easy material handling simplifies daily operations and reduces setup times,” he said. “We are especially impressed by the registration accuracy in tiled prints: the HP Latex R530 operates without misalignment, allowing us to produce multi-panel large-format jobs more precisely than ever before and shift production from our previous water-based system to the R530 – with noticeably improved quality.”
Further HP Latex Investment
ReproMedia has a long history with HP technology, having invested in multiple devices over the past 14 years. This includes the HP DesignJet Z5200 which was installed in 2012, followed by installations of the HP Latex 360 in 2014, the HP DesignJet T7200 in 2016, the HP PageWide XL 5100 in 2022, the HP Latex 700W in early 2023 – and now the HP Latex R530.
Given the impact of its latest investments, the company is already considering further expansion.
“We are closely monitoring the development of the HP Latex platform,” said Giebe. “If the R530 performs as expected and demand for rigid printing continues to grow, we will consider additional investment in the HP Latex family.
“With the R530, HP has shown that innovation and practical usability can go hand in hand, strengthening our confidence in the brand.”
