Having purpose is essential. It drives us. Inspires us. Literally, keeps us alive. And not many companies have the opportunity or ability to have a purpose like HP's: To create technology that makes life better for everyone, everywhere. It is a bold and authentic reason for being.
Sustainable Impact is our commitment to create positive, lasting change for the planet, its people and our communities. And it's been a part of our company’s DNA from the very beginning.
Eighty years ago, Dave Packard, one of HP’s founders, said:
The betterment of our society is not a job to be left to a few. It is a responsibility to be shared by all.

Every year new digital printing technology emerges, aiming to find the latest ways to improve the printing quality while minimizing printing time and keeping it sustainable.
With an end-to-end approach, HP continues to drive a greater sustainable impact in large-format printing with each new generation of HP Latex Printing System.
HP has the commitment and the scale to address current, as well as anticipated environmental needs, and to continue leading the change in signage printing.
Learn More about HP Latex SustainabilityHP Latex is a water-based ink technology, meaning up to 65% of the ink formula is water.
The latest water-based HP Latex Inks are designed to avoid the hazards associated with other inks without trading off performance providing a more comfortable work environment for your operators.
HP Latex Inks do not release Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs). They avoid reactive monomer chemistry exposure and ozone generation. This ink formula is combined with wetting agents and humectants needed for printhead reliability (which, incidentally, your HP home printer also uses) to produce a liquid ink vehicle that carries the latex polymer and pigment particles to and through the printer's printheads onto the substrate.
Radiant heat and forced airflow evaporate the liquid and set the latex, binding the pigments and substrate together to leave a durable image on the print media surface. Prints are ready to use, even animate, immediately.

of consumers are willing to change their consumption to reduce environmental impact.
of people say it’s important that the brands they buy from are committed to sustainability.
say that they will change suppliers that don’t meet sustainability criteria.
Reducing impact means aspiring to a world without waste. With an end-to-end approach, HP continues to drive a greater sustainable impact in large-format printing through manufacturing, product design materials, and product and print end of life.
HP Latex prints are recyclable, non-hazardous and safe for disposal. The new labeless carton based HP ink cartridge says goodbye to plastic-based ink cartridges - reducing plastic by 80%.
For HP DesignJet printers, we have minimized plastic in packaging by at least 55% in 2025. Morover, some of our latest printer models are made with up to 45% recycled plastic and 10% recycled metal.
We're also optimizing resources throught the supply chain and launching printer features that help save energy and avoid waste.

To enhance business opportunities and capabilities, it is imperative to secure the certifications and documentation that can help you meet the requirements of environmentally conscious brand owners and their print buyers.
More and more customers, large and small, are requesting products with reduced environmental impact. In addition, customers are now supporting brands that meet compliance with legal regulations including documented proof that environmental standards are met.
Our large format printers and plotters have obtained various certifications recognizing the reduced sustainable impact.

HP Latex Inks and HP DesignJet printersmeet a range of stringent environmental performance standards and human health criteria, and qualify for certifications that demonstrate they meet some of the world's most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low chemical emissions in indoor air for the finished print. HP is the only printing company to have UL ECOLOGO® Certified inks.

HP Latex Inks are UL GREENGUARD Gold Certified at the lowest emissions, qualified for unrestricted use in wallpaper for a full room. Also, no wait time is necessary before installation (or prior to applications with lamination). In addition, prints produced using HP Latex Inks on HP PVC-free Wall Paper meet AgBB criteria for health-related evaluation of VOC emissions of indoor building products.

HP DesignJet printers have been awarded with the highest level of EPA recognition, and partners must perform at a superior level of energy management.
The ENERGY STAR program is administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. EPA sets energy efficiency specifications and those that meet them can display the ENERGY STAR logo. In turn, consumers and businesses who want to save energy, and money can look for the ENERGY STAR label when making buying decisions.

The EPEAT Certification helps purchasers evaluate, compare and select electronic products based on their environmental attributes. HP DesignJet printers and plotters have been evaluated by the Global Electronics Council based on both mandatory and optional environmental criteria: achieving the Gold status means they not only met the 23 mandatory criteria, but also the highest amount of optional criteria.
